Boomkwekerij Coonen has a rich history dating back to 1963, when Wiel Coonen laid the foundation with a small plot of land. Initially, he focused on growing roses and conifers, but in 1975 he switched to ornamental shrubs.
In 1989, Rob, the eldest son, took the initiative to purchase an adjacent plot of land and started his own nursery there. Meanwhile, Boomkwekerij Coonen continued to grow, with the development of container fields and the construction of a warehouse, office, and canteen.
In the early 1990s, Richard and René joined the family business. Wiel gradually stepped back in the late 1990s, and in 1997 Richard and René fully took over management. Under their leadership, significant investments were made in new greenhouses, tunnels, and additional container fields, further modernizing the company.
In 2006, they opened a second location in Kessel, further expanding the total production capacity. Despite the growth and division, cooperation between the family businesses has always remained strong. All products are still marketed and sold jointly to this day.
In 2013, Boomkwekerij Coonen celebrated its 50th anniversary, and Boomkwekerij Rob Coonen nearly 25 years. Following several major renovations to our warehouses and foil greenhouses, our company is fully prepared for the future.
Today, we work with great pleasure and dedication on our plants. Our team consists of 29 full-time and part-time employees, complemented by more than 35 students who support us on Saturdays and during school holidays.
